High Mountain Golf club opened July 1966. Charles S. Clevland, noted architect, designed the clubhouse. Alec Ternyei, a well-known golf professional, made use of his experience in fashioning out the land into a course of which we can be proud.
The 18 Hole Championship Course in northwest Bergen County is situated in Franklin Lakes on a tract of 130 acres adjacent to the Haledon Reservoir. The club has its entrance on Ewing Avenue, making it readily accessible from Routes 208 and 287. The comparatively high elevation of its location assures players of summer temperatures 5 to 10 degrees cooler than those in neighboring communities.
The terrain is ideally suited for a golf course because of its rolling land, complimented by majestic oaks, sparkling ponds and streams. The greens are dramatized against High Mountain, one of the area's highest mountains and one of the first sights seen by early voyagers on the Hudson River.
The par 71 course with its tree lined fairways, challenging waterways and other hazards offers a choice of three plays: championship of 6516 yards, a regular of 6185 yards and a ladies of 5169. Each hole has a distinctive character and several are comparable to some of the most famous holes in America.
In 1998, the course was remodeled. Ronald S. Cutlip, Golf Course Architect, was instrumental in the design of the remodeling which included all tees and several fairways. All of the bunkers were rebuilt and many additional bunkers were added. In addition, new cart paths have been installed to make your golfing experience more comfortable. We have recently completed the installation of a state of the art irrigation system. In 2004, a new maintenance facility was built.
The clubhouse offers dining facilities, a terrace, a club room with an informal bar and fireplace, as well as a dining room and a highly competent kitchen staff. It is available for small parties, weddings and other functions.
The clubhouse also contains a fully stocked pro shop; men's and women's locker facilities, a lesson area, putting green and a driving range. The club is available and specializes in golf outings of all sizes. Our professional staff can help you organize and promote your outing from start to finish.
It is unusual to find a site so richly endowed by nature and so readily accessible to people who live and work in Bergen and Passaic Counties. High Mountain Golf Club brings the best of golfing almost to your doorstep... right across the street from your new home!
